let me preface this by saying yes, i know it’s been a while and no, i haven’t come to terms with the fact LESSONS IN FORGIVING comes out next month….
It feels like Faking released yesterday and I signed my contract a week ago and everything’s moving so fast, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed sometimes. But we’re here! And this is really happening! In exactly 37 days!
As a gentle reminder, here is Forgiving’s perfect cover again:
And a quick glimpse into what it’s about:
Paula Castillo is determined to get her life back on track. And after a long time on the metaphorical writing-bench, she thinks a profile on an upcoming HBU-soccer legend will at least roll plan »Restore Journalistic Reputation« into motion. The problem: Henry Pressley hasn’t only signed a million-dollar deal with an MLS club in the past year, he also broke up with Paula. Although she promises herself not to get caught up in the whirlwind of Henry that almost cost her everything once already, one-on-one interviews and unexpected nights together force the two to face their past. Between the pages, it becomes apparent that the broody soccer player still seems to have a soft spot for his lucky charm ...
Aaaaand as a little special treat for this newsletter, here’s a little sneak peek of the first page of the book:
Henry and Paula are very near and dear to my heart, and not just because I, too, looooove not getting over people (Paula and I have that in common). They were so easy and perfect and very clearly made for each other that I could’ve written their book with my eyes closed and I would’ve still gotten it right.
When I wrote Forgiving almost two years ago, my last breakup was so so long ago, I was scared I might not get all those very complicated emotions that come with separation, forgiveness and the dreaded NO CONTACT right. Then, while I was editing last year, *weeks* after somewhat of a breakup (that was way too similar to what happened to Henry and Paula), I realized I had nothing to worry about because I was sobbing. Hard. So in a way…. thanks to the guy who broke my heart for making me realize what I wrote was actually good? And believable? Yay!
Anyway, if you’re in the mood to miss your ex and wonder “Why can’t he grovel the way Henry does???” Lessons in Forgiving (Goodreads) might just be for you. :)
Also a little FYI to my Germans: I’m signing and talking in Bavaria next week! Make sure to get your free tickets here:
